IATA Maintains Positive Outlook for Airfreight Procurement Despite Trade Tensions

Despite emerging tariff wars, IATA maintains a strong outlook for airfreight procurement. With 87% of global trade unaffected by tariffs, new market opportunities are emerging. Air cargo is forecast to handle 72.5 million tonnes by 2025, with global cargo tonne-kilometres (CTKs) expected to grow 6% in 2024. The Middle East leads regional growth at 7.5%. Yields have outpaced inflation, supporting a 5.4% annual revenue increase. While risks from geopolitical tensions remain, falling fuel prices and rising e-commerce continue to drive demand. Airfreight procurement remains vital for adapting to shifting global trade dynamics and ensuring supply chain resilience.
