CMA CGM Raises Asia to Mediterranean Container Rates Amidst Red Sea Threats

CMA CGM is set to raise Asia to Mediterranean container rates by 1.5 to 2 times starting January 15, citing security concerns in the Red Sea due to Houthi attacks. Previously, 20-foot containers cost USD 2050 and 40-foot containers USD 3100 from January 1-14. However, after January 15, rates will almost double, reaching USD 3550 and USD 6100, respectively. This adjustment extends to the Western Mediterranean, Eastern Mediterranean, Black Sea, and Syria routes. The move reflects the impact of regional security issues on global shipping routes and emphasizes the company's response to ensuring maritime safety amid geopolitical challenges.
