According to the consolidated financial results of ANA Holdings (NH/ANA) for the fiscal year ending March 2021, the cargo division recorded a record high 160.5 billion yen (+56.3% year-on-year). Although the international cargo transportation weight decreased to 655,000 tons (-24.4%) due to the suspension or reduction of passenger flights, freight rates soared due to the tight supply-demand situation. In the previous fiscal year, demand for the transport of emergency goods such as masks increased in the first quarter, and demand for automobile-related parts, semiconductors, and electronic devices recovered from August. In the fourth quarter in particular, marine transportation was congested and the supply-demand imbalance continued. In addition to the introduction of large freighter Boeing 777F aircraft on the Narita - Frankfurt route in October and the Narita - Bangkok route in December, the company has been actively operating extra cargo flights on cargo-only aircraft and cargo-only flights using passenger aircraft to capture demand. In February 2021, the company began transporting a new coronavirus vaccine manufactured by Pfizer.
