IATA Calls for Stronger Measures on Undeclared Dangerous Goods

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has called for stronger, coordinated action across the supply chain to address risks from undeclared and misdeclared dangerous goods. According to IATA, around 80% of dangerous goods incidents reported in the first half of 2025 involved undeclared or hidden items. Lithium batteries, e-cigarettes and aerosols were among the products most commonly identified.

IATA said cargo security screening provides an important layer of protection but should not be the primary solution, as existing systems are mainly designed to detect weapons and explosives. It urged governments, manufacturers, shippers, forwarders, airlines and airports to strengthen controls, training and information sharing.
