NX International Logistics (China) (NX China), a group company of NIPPON EXPRESS Holdings, launched a combined transport service using an international railroad linking China and Laos to connect with ASEAN neighboring countries by truck transport. According to NX China, the service will use rail transport between Kunming, China and Vientiane, Laos, and from Vientiane, cross-border trucks will be used to connect Thailand and other ASEAN countries via the Nong Khai border. According to NX China, cross-border truck transportation has been the main type of overland transportation between China and ASEAN. The company expects that the China-Laos Railway connecting Nanning-Hanoi and Kunming-Vientiane will open on December 3, 2021, and that the railroad connection to Vientiane will avoid congestion at the China-Laos border, shorten lead times, and enable mass transportation. The company states that it has developed a multimodal freight sourcing service using rail transportation.
