Nippon Express (China) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Koryo Shipping (Shanghai), the Chinese headquarters of Korea Marine Transport Corporation (KMTC), to commercialize door-to-door intermodal transportation services. KMTC(Shanghai) was established in 1944 as the Chinese subsidiary of KMTC, the second largest shipping company in South Korea and the 14th largest in the world in terms of tonnage, and has been providing intra-Asian marine container transportation services mainly to and from China. Through this memorandum of understanding, the two companies will first aim to commercialize a door-to-door ocean transport service between China and Japan, and then consider expanding the service to other Asian countries where KMTC has routes, such as between China and Southeast Asia.
