According to the International Freight Forwarders Association (JIFFA), in the second half of fiscal 2020, exports totaled 996,446 TEUs (+2.2% year-on-year), imports 1,579,122 TEUs (+10.2%), and total imports and exports 2,575,568 TEUs (+7.0%). On a revenue tonnage basis, exports recovered to the level of the first half of FY2018 at 24.565 million tones (+9.1%) and imports were 35.951 million tones (+5.2%), for a total import/export of 60.516 million tones (+6.7). Since last autumn, the container market has been in turmoil due to soaring freight rates and delays in vessel schedules in response to a shortage of space and empty containers, but handling of both imports and exports increased. For the full year (TEU basis), exports were negative due to the decline in the first half, while imports were positive.
